A Simulation Study on the Effect of Individuals’ Uncertain Behaviors in Indoor Evacuation

چکیده
Simulation study on indoor evacuation has gained tremendous attention in recent years. How to portray the effect of individuals’ uncertain behaviors on the evacuation procedure remains a research challenge. In this study, an agent-based simulation of general indoor evacuation scenarios has been developed. Each individual is modelled as an autonomous agent driven by a weight-based decision-making mechanism. The environment is modelled as a combination of a grid-based map and potential fields. The simulation focuses on the uncertain interactions among individuals, small groups of individuals, and between the individuals and the environment. Experimental results indicate that pedestrians escaping as a single group in a similar manner may not be an effective scheme in indoor evacuation and the uncertainty in individual behaviors has significant influences on the evacuation procedure. Impact of architectural variables on evacuation time of a classroom in emergencies
Investigating the process of evacuating people from a space such as a stadium, theater, or classroom is very interesting not only for managers and relief organizations but also for designers and researchers in the field of architecture. In this study, the evacuation process of a classroom with 42 students in emergencies was investigated by computer-based simulation using the A* algorithm and th...
متن کاملDesign and operation optimization of an air conditioning system through simulation: an hour-by-hour simulation study
In the present research, performance validation of a Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system operating in a library building was conducted. The operating HVAC system was studied in terms of the provided indoor air conditions and energy consumption level. The fieldwork measurements showed that the HVAC system is not capable of providing the desired indoor air conditions based on...
متن کاملFactors Influencing Failure Emergency Evacuation in Work Environments during Fire
One of the necessary measures of saving human life in emergency situations, such as fires, is the safe and swift evacuation of people. The prerequisites for this are to anticipate, identify, and eliminate factors preventing people from leaving buildings in a timely and safe manner while moving them to a safe place [1]. The occurrence of errors caused by engineering, design, human, and psycholog...
متن کاملAgent-based simulation of affordance-based human behaviors in emergency evacuation
Complex cognitive processes corresponding to human control behaviors cannot be easily inferred using (1) a logical rule-based model, (2) a statistical model, or (3) an analytical predictive model. Predicting human behaviors in complex and uncertain environments like emergency evacuation is considered almost impossible (at least NP hard) in systems theory. In this paper, we explore simulating hu...
متن کاملA Dynamic Indoor Field Model for Emergency Evacuation Simulation
Indoor emergency response plays a critically important role in disaster management for cities, which must consider the evacuation of people in a dynamic indoor environment. The spatial model is the foundation for the specific analysis of indoor emergency responses, such as evacuations. The current spatial model for evacuation has three primary pitfalls: (1) it primarily focuses on static spatia...
